A task for our high flyers this term was to reflect on a favourite peice of art work for 2009 !

a piece of art that i am proud of this year would probably be my upset soccer man ! We had to make a drawing of a cartoon character and I chose to do mine on a soccer player who had missed a goal. The number on the gurnsey was number eight ! The reason I chose this cartoon was because i saw it from a cartoon book and i thought it looked simple and funny so i drew it but i also added my own variations to it; like a soccer goal, a number on his Guernsey, grass, the sky and i think that’s just about it ! I liked it better when it didn’t have colour on it but the teachers instructions was to colour it in. If it was up to me i wouldn’t have but we had to. I am proud of this art piece because it wasn’t to difficult, it wasn’t very crowded and it was the main focus was on the man and that was my drawing !

The first task of our homework was to reflect on what we have learnt this term from our inquiry question What are the consequences??

The Past Inquiry question we had was ‘what are the consequences?’ .. the consequences of the media targeted to adolescents. In that block, i learnt a lot of things. I learnt that most ads are directed to teens as we are the easiest to get money out of. The producers of ads have many many ways of trying to make us want their product. Theses things can be making us feel like we won’t be cool if we don’t have that thing, they use celebrities to try and sell theproduct, they use memorable things (for eg.) the cadbury gorilla ad has nothing to do with chocolate but as soon as you see a picture of that or see that ad, automatically you think of chocolate ! these are just a few strategies they use to grab our attention.

The second thing was to comment about an ad that has influenced us to buy their product:

An ad that has influenced me would be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp3br5uKbKc Its is a domino’s ad promoting a new dessert called the chocolate lava cake !! This ad is influencing on other people because Domino’s is selling this sweet for a very low price which makes it tempting to buy because its not too expensive, its really describing the cake and making it sound really nice and tasty and also the way its been filmed plays a role because they make it seem like a lotof chocolate is coming out-that is probably what i would have thought before inquiry. After going through it now, i think differently. It actually looks like too much chocolate is coming out of the cake and it looks really sweet and rich. If you heard the guy talking, he actually said gooey chocolate so that doesn’t sound too nice. Junk food is also bad for our health and a so-called ‘take-away-pizza‘place is now trying to be all good and sell cakes. It also makes me wonder, because if a cake is that cheap, it probably isn’t the best of quality. After watching that a few times you’d probably start feeling a bit sickly. So in summary, i don’t think the producers have done a good job of making the as really sell able. I wouldn’t buy it.

The previous post I did was a review of the book Angus Thong, And Full-Frontal Snogging for a homework task.  That was while i was still reading the book but now i have finished it and i can do a similar if not better review.

This book is related to any teenage girl basically !!!!! Most of the time i was reading it i could really relate to most of the scenarios that were going on in the book ! I would definitely recommend this book to girls between the ages of 12-15 as it is a funny, crazy book all about the confessions of a 14 year old girl, Georgia Nicholson. 

This book is mainly bout friends, enemies, lovers and other funny bits ! But if a boy was to read this book i think that they would get extremely board reading this type of material as it has nothing really to do with them.

I’m am looking forward to reading the next book in the series called ‘Its OK, I’m wearing really big knickers !’ I’m looking forward to reading this because when i finished the 1st book, it left me badly wanting more because it didn’t have a proper ending. I think it was really smart of the author to do this because when she ended the 1st book the way she did, if you don’t read the rest of the series, it would seem like you are missing out on a lot !

The novel i am currently reading is about typical teenage girls going through stages of their live’s. The main character Georgia, is your typical teenage girl who hates her life, thinks she’s really ugly, has never been kissed before etc. But she’s seen this guy called robbie that she thinks is really good looking and her friend Jas also thinks his brother is good looking! So here are two bestfriends trying to get these two brothers to like them ! In the mean time, she wants to learn how to kiss and how to apply her make-up properly, thats why this book is much more for females. The movie, Angus Thong and Perfect Snogging is based around tha same idea but is different to the book. I suggest you see tha movie becuase it is better than the book-i think. PERSONALY i think the book is good becase its really aimed at teenge girls heading into the next steps of their lives. I liked the movie better as they had changed alot around for the good i reckon. I would suggest you read the whole series of books to see how it ends and everything because sometimes this book un-expectadly changes !
so give it a try !…..boys can as well but i really don’t think they’ed enjoy it.

As a part of our homework task, we have to talk to our parents about our term 3 High Flyers’ and tell them how its going to work and whats involved. I talked to my mum about it and she thought that it is a positive thing as she wants me to work hard and try and achieve one because it would be good to try and get as many as I can for the last year at primary school!!!!

Today our class visited the Migration Museum in the city. We left school as soon as the teacher had done the roll and then we walked down a bit to the buss stop. We waited for a while but then the bus finally came! My friends and I all sat at the back of the bus-it was really high and we could see everyone! When we got into town, we had to walk a bit before we got to the actual Migration Museum.
We were put into groups and then we had to handle real people’s documents, passports,property etc. My group was working on an Italian lady who had migrated from Italy to Australia. Her first name was Riva (or) Rita. When we were handling the papers, we had to wear gloves otherwise the paper might have disintegrated. The lady that was talking to us was called Pat. I thought the excursion was a bit short because we only did one activity but it was fun the fact it was in town and going on the bus was really fun with my friends! In the end, I think that it would be really hard to migrate somewhere because you are leaving behind your home, family, language and way more.

At the moment I am reading ‘Sarah, Plain and Tall.’ This is my response to the question ‘Which character would you like as a friend?’

In the book that i have just read,  the character i would be most interested in having a friend would be Jacob (the dad) i have chosen this  character because he would be handy and helpful to have around. In  this book, this family lives on a farm and Jacob is the person that fixes things, plants things, takes care of animals and more. Therefore he would teach you lots of tricks and you would get tips off him. Jacob sounds like a caring, eager, dedicated man in the book. I like these things because if  he was my friend, after being with him for a few days, you would be able to live in the country by yourself. I think ii could benefit from having a  friend like this in many ways.

For our up-coming Inquiry task, we are going to be focusing on ‘The World Is Coming To Australia.’
I think that this is going to be a really long Inquiry, even though all of them go for a whole term.
I think that there will be a lot to cover within this topic. We are also going on an excursion next Tuesday as a part of our Inquiry. I really like going on excursions! I think they are fun because it makes me a bit more interested in what we are learning about. There a good idea because it also makes the topic more fun! well I think so anyway. Inquiry isn’t one of my favourite subjects but this time round might be a bit better because we are going to go on an excursion (as i said before) and because it involves Adelaide which is were we live and we might find out more things about where we live too! We haven’t really done much work on it yet but there’s still a whole term ahead of us to work on it.

For this up coming term, we are expected to be presenting a Personal Research Project to our class. I am going to do mine on Hawaii. I have chosen this topic because the pictures i have seen of Hawaii look tropical and really pretty! Last year i wanted to do it on Hawaii but i changed my mind. There is a lot of preparation towards this. Every fortnight, there is something for us to do about it. Once we are done, we have to show the teacher and she then has to sign in. I am looking forward to presenting the topic ‘Hawaii’ to the class as a PowerPoint presentation. I have a good idea of what it will look like. Although there are other ways of presenting it such as a poster, poetry,drama/role-play,storytelling etc. Most of the people I have talked to are choosing a presentation. Personally, i think it is slightly smarter doing it this way, because it is a more clear way of showing it to everyone and making sure that we all see whats up there. Our teacher did say that if too many people choose the same way of presenting, she will ask a few students to choose another way of presenting. If this happens to me, I will go with a poster option where i will design/make a poster on information and pictures of Hawaii. I am looking forward to seeing every body’s presentations and I’m looking forward to completing mine! Most people will put lots of effort into it. Good luck to everyone!!!

Today, we had the second visit from the power community youth group. The four people that came to talk to us today were Wayde Thompson, Matt thomas, Jonathon Giles and Moronia Gerrad. Today the main idea was was bout smoking. They were telling us about some of the chemicals that are in one cigarette and where else you can find these chemicals. Here is a list of just a few.

                                     * Cadmiun found in batteries
                                     * Butane found in gas
                                     * Toluene found in nail polish
                                     * Arsenic found in rat poison

 We had to do three activities in the book. At the end we got them to write there autographs. In the end, I basically learnt that even having one cigarette can harm me. I don’t think I will ever be interested in trying one.
