Today, we had the second visit from the power community youth group. The four people that came to talk to us today were Wayde Thompson, Matt thomas, Jonathon Giles and Moronia Gerrad. Today the main idea was was bout smoking. They were telling us about some of the chemicals that are in one cigarette and where else you can find these chemicals. Here is a list of just a few.
* Cadmiun-batteries
* Butane-gas
* Toluene-nail polish
* Arsenic- rat poison
We had to do three activities in the book. At the end we got them to write there autographs. In the end, I basically learnt that even having one cigarette can harm me. I don’t think I will ever be interested in trying one.

A few days ago, we had been given a sheet based around tessellation and patters. We had some examples given to us on the board. In the end, we ended up making an art piece out if them. Tessellation basically means a shape used more then once in a different way. My art is really colorful. Although i haven;t finished it yet.It is mainly all triangles in a square. Each row (going down) are different colors. Every one’s art looks really effective.Here is the actual meaning of the word tessellation:

In our class, Mrs.Paladino reads us parts of the book Storm boy. The author for this book is Colin Thiele. He was Australian and most of his books are set/based in real Australian places like the Coorong, Murray etc. Sometimes in Inquiry, our teacher reads parts of the book and we have to write down words that are unusual and that we don’t really use and here much. We did it today. Then, after we have the list of words, we have to write a paragraph or two and sort of re-tell the story (using the list of words).

As apart of our homework grid, we are asked to write a blog post about a learning experience for this fortnight. I thought about how on the previous Friday, we had Mrs.Brooke and we were talking about emotions. We had to write the word emotions in a bubble in the center of our page and then we had a time limit where we had to think of as many emotions as we could. After we had done our individual thinking, We went round the room and each person said an emotion that they had recorded on their page. When everyone had finished, the teacher had a long list of emotions we had to copy in our book to fill up any gaps on the page. Below are some examples of emotions:

* sad
* anxious
* nervous
* proud
and as you could imagine there are many more.

Something good this term would be the High Flyers. What we do, is we get a leaflet every term and in it, we have certain things we need to do to get a High Flyer. Then we put all our work in a folder and then the teacher collects the work and asseses us on it. If we dont do the work, then that rules us out of getting a High Flyer for that term. If we get a High Flyer for every term, then we get a special framed one. We get that on the night of graduation. Thats really fun about year 7 becuase we get things that everyone else in the school can’t get! But everyone will get it some time in their life obviously!!! Its fun also, because we get to do that work in calss and that means that we will finish it faster. The teachers let us know who has gotten a High Flyer before hand and they will be presented to us at a whole school assembly.

YAY!!!!!!! I’m sooo glad that we finally got our year 7 jumpers!!!!! We got them just before home time on the first day of term 2. Most people wore them but some didn’t and waited unill they got home. All my friends are excited and like, every year 7 has been wearing them for the past couple days. There navy blue, and have a light blue strip going down them. They look really great on us! Only the people that are away haven’t got theirs yet but they’ll get them when they come to school next. At the back, they have all of the yr 7 student’s names, all of the teacher’s names the name of our school and the year. At the front, it just says year 7 2009. Next to the big strip going down our arms, there is a really small white line on either side. There really warm and everyone loves them!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the 25th of April, (Saturday) It was ANZAC Day. Anzac Day is when a lot Australian and New Zealand soldiers went to Gallipoli in Turkey to help during WWI. A Lot of people died during this war and now every year on the 26th of April, there is a march in the city to remember them. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The soldiers were known as the ANZACS’. They always play a song at the service called: The Last Post. There is always a lot of talk about it on the News and in the Newspapers. I think that its good that people still go for the march to remember the soldiers and families. The flower ‘Poppie’ is a red flower and it marks the symbol of remembrance.

YAY!!! It’s holidays at the moment and so far, the have been quiet but okay. I just can’t wait to catch up with my friends! I know that I’ll definitely see them because I am invited to Stac08’s birthday on Saturday (the last Saturday in school holidays) So I’m excited for that and now I have to go out and buy her a present! So far I haven’t really done much because my parents have been working too. (not everyday though) and so we have mainly been staying home. These holidays are busy for me with other things though but in a way i can’t wait to go back to school! I just can’t wait to get our year 7 jumpers which should be ready by the time we get back!!! But I am really going to miss sleeping in and going to bed later than usual!! But the thing is, like at least when were at school, we have things to do all the time, like I’ve been on the computer heaps lately because there’s not much to do. But that’s good in a way because I can talk to my friends online and stuff like that.

I picked this quote because it sounds very powerful and it has a lot of meaning even though it doesn’t have a lot of words in it.For me, this means that if we want to change something, we have to step up and do it because it’s not going to happen by it its self. We have to think ‘team’ and speak up about our opinions and have a go at trying different ways of doing things. We have to take on the responsibility of showing leadership by showing the way. For example, on the 28th of March (this year) we had something called ‘Earth Hour’ which meant that we had an optional choice of turning off our lights for one hour. The purpose of that was to see how much power you could save in one hour. People that participated in this to me are leaders as they thought ‘team’ and didn’t complain about it. Therefore, if we want something changed, we have to step up and do it and start something.

hello everyone!!!! now this is really exciting because soon were going to get our yr. 7 jumpers!!! Well I don’t really know when we are going to get them but so far, I no that they have put orders in for them! It is more important for the year 7’s though. We also had the potion of purchasing a year 7 t-shirt as well but I didn’t get one because personally, I thought they were ugly. Pavlo’s design won for the jumper. I like the design he made because it’s different from other years and also because its nice too. Last year, the year 7’s got their jumpers kind of late but hopefully we will get our in time for winter which is next term!! (term 2) I hope they don’t take too long to make, they shouldn’t really because we are having the same design as the front like last year. Its alright, but I would have wanted a hood on my jumper… cya later!!
